Capricorn New Moon: 2 January
The New Year starts with a beautiful New Moon on 2 January, but what does that actually mean and how will it affect your sign?
Read on to find out…
The Moon Cycle:
A New Moon is the time when the Moon is at its darkest.
This is the start of the Lunar Cycle and is followed by two weeks of the waxing phase when the Moon grows bigger. This culminates in a Full Moon around mid-month and then two weeks of the waning Moon phase.
Then the cycle begins all over again.
New Moon Meaning:
In astrology, a New Moon is a time to plant, and a Full Moon is a time to harvest.
New Moons are times when we should set our intentions for the month ahead and make a wish under the cover of darkness when the sky is at its darkest point.
When the Moon begins to reveal itself sliver by sliver over the course of the month, our wishes or intentions should start to take form (of course, you need to be actively working at them as well).
New Moon Sign:
Every New Moon is linked to an astrological sign and takes on the characteristics of that sign accordingly.
A New Moon will always correspond to the Sun Sign in the heavens at the time. For example, if the Sun is in the sign of Virgo, then the New Moon will also be in the Sign of the Virgin.
As it is currently Capricorn season, the New Moon on 2 January takes on the character of Capricorn, traditionally depicted as a Sea Goat.
Capricorn New Moon:
Capricorn, the industrious Goat, is ruled by Saturn, the planet often called Old Father Time. If you think of an hourglass with sand pouring through it, that is the perfect symbol of both Saturn and Capricorn.
Capricorn rules time, schedules, responsibilities and obligations, so this is a good time to buy a day planner or sort out your schedule for the weeks ahead. You might also like to download some apps that help you with time management or set up appointments and alarms on your phone or computer.
Capricorn is organized and orderly, not particularly light or fun, so this is an opportune moment to use this rather heavy energy to tend to responsibilities and get things done. The time to party will come later.
Capricorn and Saturn are also both linked to teeth, bones and calcium, so you may find you have toothache now or have aching bones, so it is a good time to schedule a dentist or chiropractor appointment. Avoid cosmetic dental tratements however as Venus is retrograde.
Capricorn also rules the knees and is also linked to the Earth element, so walking in the countryside is a typical Capricorn activity and many people born under this sign are keen ramblers.
Go for a hike and feel the earth under your feet as you make some practical plans for the year ahead.
Capricorn is a sign focused on hard work, structure, image and hierarchy, so this is the ideal moment to think about where you want to end up in 2022. It helps that this New Moon falls at a time when we are also planning ahead for a whole new year - so use this energy and think of it the fresh start it is.
BUT…
…don't forget that Mercury, Planet of Communication, and Venus, Planet of Relationships, are in their shadow retrograde or retrograde periods.
This means that they are not operating at full power and both of them are causing mixed messages and miscommunication at this time.
As such, while many are saying this is a fresh start to the year, it is also something of a false start as well. You can set your intentions, but just don't expect them to work out as you had expected.
That is not a reason to lose hope, but rather a chance to start the year in a flexible way.
Plan for the best is really the message of this New Moona and, while you don’t need to expect the worst (this is a friendly Moon!), just remember that things are likely to look a little different than you had pictured them as we go deeper into 2022.
And finally…don't believe everything you hear around this New Moon, particularly grand declarations or rousing speeches. It is not that people are lying, just that things change and the wider energy of the month is unstable.
