Happy New Year, Star Scholars, and welcome to the year ahead!
Cutting straight to the chase, what can we expect from 2023? In three words: a mixed bag.
To be fair, no year is ever really “good” or “bad” in astrology as there are ups and downs to navigate whatever the weather, but 2023 will be a little more changeable than most with some challenging times ahead.
Perhaps one of the best ways to describe the year would be to say that it will be a time of change and breakthroughs - and while change is good, it also comes with teething problems and growing pains.
One of the biggest themes this year, whatever your sign, will be relationships (because of the Nodes of Fate moving into Aries/Libra as explained below) and we will be seeing quite a few major breakups, makeups, marriages, divorces and second honeymoons!
With that in mind, you will end the year in a much better position than you started it, and you will be able to be very proud of the hard work that it took to get you there!
A few things to look out for this year include:
Mercury Retrograde:
There will be four Mercury Retrograde periods this year and the year actually starts with the Planet of Communication already retrograde, which rather sets the tone for the year ahead. There will be a lot of delays and rewrites going on this year as communication is scrambled and extreme weather causes travel chaos. Try to travel locally not internationally if possible! This is a time to explore all that is close(r) to home.
Eclipses:
There will be a number of powerful eclipses this year in the Spring and Autumn that are likely to be quite dramatic. Eclipses are sent to change the status quo and help us let go of what no longer serves us, and this is in keeping with the general theme of change throughout the year. There will be both Lunar and Solar eclipses, as there are every year, and these will fall in Aries, Scorpio, Libra and Taurus - so if you have planets in any of these signs, you will likely be affected. Themes for the eclipses are relationships, values and finances.
Lunar Nodes:
One big change this year will be that the Lunar Nodes that rule destiny or fate will move out of Taurus/Scorpio and into Aries/Libra where they will rule relationships of all kinds until 2025. Aries and Libra in particular represent the battle between independence and commitment, which may be difficult for some people to balance in the coming years. Should you stay or should you go?
And now for a look at the year ahead according to some of our favourite astrologers:
Jessica Adams - 2023 Predictions in Astrology:
The year 2023 is full of highs and lows. The worst phase of Covid is coming from March, but the solution to Covid is also here. We will see a new one-world currency from May 2023. Ukraine will win.
Refinery29 - Your 2023 Horoscope Is Here & It’s A Year For Personal Power:
2023 is a year full of change and transformation. We will be wanting and willing to open our hearts and embrace our personal power. Even though the world will bring us challenges, it’s a time of scientific advancement and evolution — as well as a year of advancing our liberties and freedoms.
VICE - New Year’s Resolutions for 2023, Based on Your Zodiac Sign:
2023 is a pivotal year for us, astrologically. For the first time since 2008, Pluto will be entering a new zodiac sign, Aquarius, on March 23, 2023. That may be the start of a tremendous cultural shift, perhaps finding us confronting our relationship to technology and—as Aquarius is the sign of community—to each other.
